Although LOstn6tz reports that Magellan will have a map update in June, I think 20 months is just too long when TomTom and Garmin seem to update quarterly. By the way the TomTom I purchased came with Lifetime traffic and maps. Even if Magellan got up to speed on the map updates I probally would not buy a Magellan in the future since it appears all models released since the 4350/4370 do not support custom POIs. Dtran1 wrote: POI. I'm not certain about the lack of support for custom POIs. Note I do not own any of these models. I do not think the models since the 4350/4370 do support custom POIs based on the following: 1.
Custom POIs not documented in the User Manual. (However the 4350/4370 DID support costom POIs and it was not well documented.) 2. Reviews that state the unit does not support custom POIs. Many user's on forums asking about custom POIs for these units with no answers or other users stating they don't know either.
Magellan has indicated that the decision to update maps will be dependent on the number of customer requests. I guess they feel if there is enough concern, they will plan on doing it. I wish they would, I would like to update mine. Still, this is what they told me about nine months ago. I guess its time for me to call again. Answer Every Windows Product comes with what is referred to as an automatic installer, but you have to download your updates to the right place. The right place would be to Program Files. Once in program files, the updates should install by themselves. Just follow the instructions, us ually by clicking next. When your updates are installed most of the time a message will appear asking you if it is alright to re-start your computer.
Re-start your computer and the updates will be recognised. The images in Google Maps (and Google Earth) are updated on acontinuous basis. The update cycle is typically twice a month, butonly a handful of areas are updated at a given time. Updates aremade when new imagery is available from a variety of sources. It's hard to say exactly when an area will be updated because someareas may be updated more frequently than others (just because thatdata is more readily available). While most images are no more than3 years old in high resolution areas, low resolution imagery insome areas may be older. Due to overwhelming demand when a given area will be updated Googlehas created a new e-mail notification service.
